“Let me tell you about Misty. Early in our wedding vendor scouting process, I was intent on getting the best photographer we could find. As an amateur photographer myself, I vetted dozens and dozens of portfolios in Chicago and I loved Misty’s artistic shots as well as her knack for capturing great candid photos. I wanted someone whose photos were always in focus and if a flash were used, I didn’t want it to be obvious. For all those reasons and more, Misty was our first choice. It was the best vendor decision we made in the entire wedding process.

On our rainy October wedding date, Misty and her assistant Jamie were phenomenal. They worked tirelessly and quickly, getting phenomenal shots even as we were getting pelted by rain. When necessary, they barked at lingering pedestrians to get out of the shot. Her directions to us were clear and kind. We don’t really know how to pose, but Misty made us look great at nearly every angle.

Inside our wedding venue, she had to contend with two different light sources - light bulbs in a hotel ballroom and tons of light coming in from the windows. That would be a nightmare for an amateur like me, but Misty got fantastic shots, no matter the light source.

My bride wanted to dance the Hora, and as the song went on, who grabbed chairs for us and dragged them to the center of the circle? You guessed it: Misty.

This woman is an unsung Chicago treasure. She works so hard for you and captures beautiful photos all day long. As we flipped through our album, we saw that she captured pictures that were PERFECT representations of our guests. She has an incredible knack for generating iconic images of the people you love the most.

“Misty Winter ... what a gift she is! We contacted her a week before our wedding, hoping she could spare 30 minutes at 6:00 a.m. (as the sun rose at Point Udall) to take a few shots of our small, short wedding ceremony. Thank goodness we chose such an early hour because Misty was booked solid for weeks to come. Now I know why. Because of the time of day and the location, Misty made herself available and jumped on board with both feet. She even found us an officiant at the last minute, after the original person had to cancel. She could have charged an exorbitant fee and I would have paid it. But she didn’t. She could have snapped 20 or 30 photos and been done. But she didn’t. Misty was laying on the ground and climbing on top of rocks to capture the most amazing images and she made the absolute best of the beautiful colors of the sunrise and the Caribbean Sea! She even managed to keep all of the “tourists” out of the shots she took — how does that happen at such a popular place!?! I call it Misty Magic. However, the images she captured are her true magic. Each one is absolutely gorgeous and she captured our laughter, our seriousness, our shenanigans and our joy. Add to that, the fact that she delivered the images to us immediately after we returned from a short honeymoon. It doesn’t get any better than this.

“We booked Misty for our September ‘09 wedding several months ago of a referral online, and couldn’t be more excited!

We had our engagement session with her this morning...

I broke into tears before we began. I am TERRIFIED of cameras. But within fifteen minutes, Misty was clicking away with a very happy couple. She was incredibly accommodating to my unfounded fears... She just whipped out her zoom lens and started waaaay across a field to help me get comfortable. Any time I worked up the courage to actually look at the camera, she was running, yes, running, across the grass to get different angles of us. I met Misty at my sister’s wedding in Chicago in 2010, which she photographed. Misty impressed me right away with her ‘take charge’ attitude in managing a gigantic wedding party, her sense of humor which got the best reactions for photos, and obviously the final product - my sisters photos were beeeeeauuuuuutiful! So naturally when my wedding rolled around, I had to hire Misty!

I got married on March 22, 2014, and my experience with Misty was even better than I anticipated. First of all, she agreed to travel for my wedding all the way to NEW ORLEANS! Having a local photographer would have been easier for sure, but I knew bringing Misty down for the big day would be well worth it, and it definitely was. She went above and beyond capturing photos of our wild New Orleans “second line”, which is basically a parade down Bourbon Street - never in my dreams did I expect a photographer to run around and climb up to rooftop balconies to get the perfect shots, and she did just that and more. Secondly, she basically served as our wedding coordinator for the day as well. We had a coordinator at the venue, but Misty took charge and made sure we stayed on schedule to get all the planned bridal party, ceremony, and family photos we requested. Like my sister, I had an enormous wedding party, and Misty was excellent at keeping everyone focused to get the photos we wanted. Lastly, Misty made our day SO easy, we didn’t have to worry about a thing. She kept us calm, made us laugh, told us where to be and when, she even tied up my dress’s train when the bustle broke at the end of the night! She is much more than a photographer, and that is why I’ll recommend her to everyone I know.

Once my husband and I received the photos, we were even more impressed. Misty so beautifully captured everything about our day, and it brought me to tears reliving the experience through photos. Misty’s work speaks for itself, so I will definitely recommend her for that - it’s stunning. But more importantly, I recommend her for the experience we had with her during our wedding weekend - it would not have been the same without her!”

“Where to begin? When my husband and I started interviewing photographers almost a year ago, we knew minutes after meeting Misty that she would be our photog. She was really friendly, but didn’t try “selling” us like the other ones we met with.

We got our engagement photos taken last summer and they were beautiful! Our Moms had one shot blown up poster-sized for our wedding showers (I really wish that wasn’t actually true... but it is). She made us feel really comfortable and we heard from other sources that she would take care of business on the day of the wedding, no problem. That was no lie.

We got married at the end of November and Misty made sure we were aware of every last detail, like why we shouldn’t take pictures outside after the ceremony (because it’s dark in Nov. at 4pm in our lovely city). “I’m the type of person who does too much research before buying anything, selling anything, or hiring anyone. If you’re like me, let me save you some time. Misty is the best wedding photographer you’ll find in Chicago, and her rates are still quite reasonable.

A lot has been said here about Misty’s talent, energy, and professionalism. From my experience (Misty photographed my wedding), this is all true. The pictures are beautiful and well-composed, as can be seen by the examples here and on her website. She has talent, and you will not be disappointed.

Misty was always professional. She was always on time (early) and willing to work with our schedules. Our needs came first, and she was always prepared. During our reception her camera lens was accidentally knocked to the floor and destroyed. Not only did she have an extra lens on hand (and a whole extra camera, not to mention the 2nd photographer), she managed to keep a smile on her face through it all. I know I would have had difficulty with that after losing my favorite (and expensive) lens. Misty was too much of a professional to let it affect her work or our reception.

“As a trolley driver, I drive around a lot of wedding photo shoots, and I can tell which photographers know what they’re doing. I didn’t know what to expect when I this so-called “Misty Winter” (She insists that’s her real name) came on board my trolley. She claimed to be a photographer of some sort. My gut reaction was that this kid was trouble. A punk. A hot shot. But by the time the photo shoot was over and I had spent a little time with her, I came to realize that she was, in fact, trouble, a punk, and a hot shot.

However, nobody died (that I know of), so she gets five stars.

Actually,

Misty is super cool, funny, and professional. She has lots of good reviews on here for a reason: she knows what she’s doing. She means business. She calls the shots. Within 45 seconds of meeting her she had rendered the wedding planner useless in my mind. She knows what events are going on in the city, so if you are driving around for your photo shoot, you won’t be stuck in traffic the whole time. She knows the best locations on any given day. She keeps things moving, but puts people at ease at the same time. She works with people to get the best pictures possible. I even saw her helping the bride with her hair. She also seems to have the God-like ability to control the weather and make it nice and sunny outside when it was supposed to thunderstorm. I suspect this ability has something to do with her “name”: Misty. She might be one of the X-men. Storm’s younger sister, perhaps.”
